Dragon Ball Z Creator Dies at 68
Remembering the impactful artist, Akira Toriyama
The influential and inspiring creator of Dragon Ball Z, Akira Toriyama, has passed at the age of 68 due to an acute subdural hematoma. Other works you may know him from are Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger. Toriyama's impact on the world of manga, anime, and gaming is immeasurable, leaving behind a legacy that has inspired millions.

His Story
At age 23, Toriyama gained recognition with the beloved gag manga, Dr. Slump, in 1980. However, his creation of Dragon Ball in 1984 propelled him to legendary status and inspired other artists resulting in famous series such as One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto.
The storyline follows Goku's quest to collect the seven wish-granting Dragon Balls. The series has sold millions of copies and inspired television, film, and video game adaptations. According to various sources, there were many projects still in the works during his final days.
His impact expanded past animation and into the gaming world, such as with his art style in Dragon Quest, and then his second game, Chrono Trigger (very influential games, even worldwide).

New Work?
He was recently working on creating a spin-off of DBZ, called Dragon Ball Daima, where we see Goku and Vegeta have fun adventures. He also had a new game known as Sand Land, set to be released in April, and Dragon Ball Daima in the fall this year.
RIP Akira
Regardless, his work will continue to be loved by many. I remember the way his shows impacted even me. As a child, I remember my grandfather turning it on every time I came over. It was the very first anime I ever knew. Akira Toriyama's impact on popular culture is undeniable, and his legacy will endure through his works, inspiring future generations of artists, writers, and gamers. I’m sending condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate his incredible creations.
//It has come to my attention that they've announced that Akira Toriyama passed away.
I don't know what to say other than this:
Thank you, Sensei.
Rest well.
With love, "your Translator"
